"Fernando Sabino was born on October 12,
1923, in Belo Horizonte, in the state of Minas
Gerais. He decided to be a writer at the age
of 10, and, two years later, he published his
first short story. He later graduated in Law,
he wrote for some periodicals, was a film-
maker and lived in cities such as New York
and London.
The novelist and chronicler, who died on
October 11, 2004, in Rio de Janeiro, was part
of the third phase of Brazilian modernism
(or post-modernism), and became famous for
his ironic and humorous chronicles, as well
as for the publication of the novels The
Appointed Meeting and The Great Mind."
